It’s almost that time of year again, when a thick sheet of multi-colour glitter coats the streets of Sydney. While the focal point is always the float parade that shimmies down Oxford St, the real dance parties are behind closed doors in clubs all across the city. If you’re looking for a place to lose your mind—and probably your keys and wallet—here’s our best picks for celebrating Mardi Gras 2017.

I Remember House
Saturday, February 25, 12pm – 8pm

I Remember House host a few parties a year, always with the goal of delivering the best house music to the city’s gay community and their friends. This year, they’re throwing one hell of a Mardi Gras pre-party at Ivy, featuring a slew of artists including DJ Joelby (UK) and DJ Haylenise (Melb), and a very special guest announced on the night. It’s going down on Feb 25, which is really soon, so best order your Uber now.

Sydney’s Inner West is shaping up to the be the place to be on Saturday night, with Mad Racket also hosting a Mardi Gras extravaganza. It’s going down at Marrickville Bowling Club, with VVVIP guest Christian Vance coming in hot from Berlin. Helping keep the vibe alive will be the Racketeers Four: Jimmi James, Ken Cloud, Zootie and Simon Caldwell.

Friday, March 3 at 11pm – 4am
Oxford Art Factory

If you’re looking for something a little…different, head to Oxford Art Factory for the Sydney Debut of East London’s Dirty Diana night. Self-described as “an adoring dancing disco for homos and their homies”, the rave will be lead by one half of L’Oasis, Rohan Willard. It’ll be a night of high-energy techno, house and disco, with supporting sets by Micky Roots (LDN) and HipHopHoe.

Nights Like This pres. Jimmy 2 Sox + Tim Fuchs
Saturday, March 4 at 9pm – 4am

While the rebooted Goodbar isn’t advertising this night as a Mardi Gras special per se, it basically comes with the territory—literally. Sitting right smack bang in the middle of the action on Oxford St, Goodbar will be hosting home grown dance floor heroes Jimmy and Tim as they slaughter their way through an extended four hour set. We can’t promise there will be any special sparkling décor, but we can confirm that the music will be blinding.

House of Mince
Sunday, March 5, 10pm – late
Secret Location

House of Mince will be popping the usual Sunday Pav in the fridge to serve their regulars something extra spesh this Mardi Gras weekend. If you’re lucky enough to be a member and score yourself a golden ticket you won’t be disappointed.

Laneway Party
Sunday, March 5, 2pm – 1am
The Beresford

Realistically, no one is waking up the morning after Mardi Gras before 2pm. Which is perfect, because that’s what time the official farewell party kicks off at The Beresford. Order a bloody Mary and search for your dignity as you slowly but surely get your mojo back thanks to a performance by Ibiza’s resident vocalist, Peyton, and local DJs Victoria Anthony, Haylenise and Amanda Louise. Until next year beauties…
